Blinken says State Department's work would be affected by government shutdown

The State Department's work would clearly be affected by a government shutdown, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday as the U.S. government was two days from a partial shutdown, and urged Congress not to take that step.

The State Department will take every possible step to make sure it is carrying out its function to protect national security, Blinken told reporters.
