German tennis veteran Angelique Kerber exited professional tennis at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday, losing in a nail-biting three-set quarter-final match against China's world No. 7 Zhen Qinwen.
Despite taking a 4-1 lead in the third set and saving a key break point, Kerber couldn't maintain her momentum on a hot and humid Philippe Chatrier court, ultimately falling in the tiebreak.
This quarter-final finish marks Kerber's best performance since returning from maternity leave in January, after losing in the first round of the year's three Grand Slams thus far.
