India has witnessed a significant 60% increase in freight train operations, with 325 goods trains now running daily on two dedicated freight corridors, which are 96.4% complete, according to a senior railway official.
R K Jain, Managing Director of the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), revealed that the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors have vastly improved freight logistics, with the EDFC being fully operational.
The corridors are expected to reduce logistics costs and transit times, improve industrial competitiveness, and support key government initiatives like Make-In-India. However, challenges in land acquisition and infrastructure development remain significant hurdles.
