The panchayat elections in Tripura on Thursday were largely peaceful, with a 79 percent voter turnout, officials confirmed.
Out of 6,889 panchayat seats, the BJP secured 4,805 uncontested. Voting took place for the remaining 2,150 seats.
State Election Commission (SEC) secretary Asit Kumar Das reported a 79 percent turnout by 4 pm, with anticipation of an increase as voters queued up. 'The polling was largely peaceful,' Das added.
Minor incidents were swiftly handled by security personnel, according to AIG (Law & Order) Ananta Das. Complaints were raised by CPI(M) about alleged voting interference.
