In a significant ruling, the Delhi High Court tribunal has upheld the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu & Kashmir, reinforcing the government's stance on the group's role in activities threatening national unity and security.
The organization has been accused of involvement with militant outfits like Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba, and fostering public unrest through financial support directed towards separatist agendas, as per the home ministry's allegations.
Despite contesting elections historically, and claims of adhering to peaceful means, the tribunal found sufficient evidence to maintain the outlaw status of Jamaat-e-Islami under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, citing the ongoing threats to the country's integrity.
