The Union Health Ministry announced that over 5.1 lakh TB patients have been notified in India since the December 2024 launch of the 100-day Intensified TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The program focuses on early TB detection through tools like handheld X-rays and NAAT testing, targeting high-risk groups.
Efforts have intensified in congregate settings, screening both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals. The initiative has managed to identify numerous asymptomatic TB cases, significantly aiding in reducing diagnostic delays and improving treatment outcomes. As of now, over 455 districts are participating, screening over 10 crore vulnerable individuals.
The campaign, leveraging a 'whole-of-government approach,' has seen cooperation from public health institutions and private healthcare facilities, notifying 2.4 lakh and 1.1 lakh patients, respectively. Union Health Minister J P Nadda emphasized the role of community participation and government leadership in achieving these milestones, pushing for continued progress toward eliminating TB in India.
