The Rajasthan government has sanctioned Rs 653.65 crore in grants for cow shelters for the current fiscal year, Gaupalan Minister Joraram Kumawat announced to the assembly on Thursday.
Kumawat was addressing supplementary queries from an MLA during the Question Hour when he disclosed that administrative approval for the funds covering 2,843 cow shelters had been granted by July 22.
The minister elaborated that Rs 238.7 crore had been allocated to 1,987 cow shelters, with an additional Rs 27.38 crore disbursed to 210 shelters. He highlighted that grants are distributed over nine months due to sufficient grass during the rainy season.
Under the current scheme, big cows receive Rs 40 per cow per day, while small cows get Rs 20 for 270 days. Blind and disabled cows, along with bulls in 'Nandi' shelters, receive year-round funding.
