Ukrainian Forces Seize Key Russian Town of Sudzha

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Thursday that Ukrainian troops have taken full control of Sudzha, a significant town in Russia's Kursk region, marking the largest population center seized since the recent cross-border incursion began.

Sudzha, which had a prewar population of around 5,000, is a crucial administrative and natural gas transit hub for the region. The seizure has prompted chaos, with more than 120,000 civilians evacuated and at least 100 Russian troops captured. The Ukrainian military plans to set up a command office in the town, suggesting long-term intentions.

Russia has yet to respond directly to the takeover, although its defense ministry reported blocking several other Ukrainian advances. Satellite images analyzed by The Associated Press show damage from Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian air bases, further heightening tensions.
