The ruling Congress and opposition BRS in Telangana were engaged in a war of words on Friday over the recent collapse of the retaining wall of the Sunkishala project, which aims to supply drinking water to Hyderabad.
BRS Working President K T Rama Rao questioned if the Congress government was unaware of the August 2 incident during the legislative assembly session or had attempted to conceal it.
State Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who visited the site, stated that the contractor would bear the loss. The government expects no financial loss but anticipates construction delays of a few months. The responsibility for the project lies with the engineers.
The government took action only after the incident surfaced on social media on August 6.
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka blamed the previous BRS regime for poor construction, highlighting the defective designs.
