Nepal Exports Electricity to Bihar for the First Time

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has made a significant move by beginning the export of 40 MW of electricity to Bihar, marking a historic first.

Starting on Thursday, the NEA commenced this export via the Kataiya-Kushwaha transmission line, as per NEA spokesperson Chandan Ghosh.

Officially sanctioned to export up to 125 MW, the NEA plans to gradually escalate the quantity. Presently, Nepal exports about 620 MW of electricity to India daily. Last year alone, selling excess electricity to India generated Rs. 17.06 billion in revenue, surpassing the Rs. 16.93 billion spent on importing power, resulting in a surplus revenue of Rs. 130 million.
